Employment & Training— at a glance

Four cards. Twelve bullets. No jargon.

Here’s what employment & training actually is, how we deliver it, what we refuse to do on your plan, and the three questions any good provider should be happy to answer.

What it is

In plain English.

  • Help finding and keeping meaningful work — discovery, skills training, job matching and in-work support.
  • Covers School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) for young people leaving school.
  • Funded under Finding and Keeping a Job in your NDIS plan.

What we do

How InLife delivers it.

  • Spend real time on discovery before we talk about roles — your strengths, interests, sensory needs.
  • Engage directly with local employers and advocate for job carving where it makes sense.
  • Stay involved after you are placed — workplace orientation, check-ins with your supervisor, troubleshooting.

What we refuse to do

We will never. Not once. Not ever.

  • We won’t —Push you into a role because a funding milestone is coming up.
  • We won’t —Place you somewhere the culture will not support you — we screen employers as hard as candidates.
  • We won’t —Disappear after your first day. We stay for as long as you need us.

These are promises — held even when no one is watching.

Before you sign with anyone

Ask us these questions.

  • How much of my budget will discovery and training take before I start earning?
  • What employers have you actually placed participants with?
  • What happens if the placement does not work out?

Meaningful employment is one of the most powerful pathways to independence, purpose, and social inclusion — and at InLife, we are committed to making it accessible for every participant who wants to work. Our Employment and Training services cover the entire journey from exploring career interests and building foundational skills through to job searching, interview preparation, workplace onboarding, and ongoing in-work support. We partner with local employers across Melbourne, Geelong and the Gold Coast to create genuine opportunities that match participants' strengths and aspirations.

Our employment pathway begins with discovery. We spend time getting to know each participant — their interests, strengths, past experiences, and the kind of work environment where they are most likely to thrive. For some, this might mean a hands-on role in hospitality or retail. For others, it could be office-based work, warehouse operations, horticulture, or creative industries. We do not make assumptions about what a person can or cannot do; instead, we focus on what they want to achieve and build a plan to get there.

Skill development is a core component of our service. InLife runs structured training programs that cover workplace readiness topics such as time management, communication in the workplace, workplace health and safety, personal presentation, and understanding employer expectations. We also offer practical skills training in areas like food handling, basic computer literacy, customer service, and cash handling. These programs are delivered in small groups or one-on-one, depending on the participant's needs and learning style.

When a participant is ready to enter the workforce, our employment consultants provide hands-on job search support. This includes resume writing, job application assistance, interview coaching and practice, and direct engagement with employers to identify suitable vacancies. We work closely with businesses that are committed to inclusive hiring practices and can facilitate work trials, job carving (customising a role to match a participant's capabilities), and supported employment placements.

Once a participant is placed in a role, InLife does not step away. Our on-the-job support includes workplace orientation, task training, natural support development (helping colleagues and supervisors understand how best to work with the participant), and regular check-ins with both the participant and the employer. We have found that this ongoing support is what makes placements successful and sustainable in the long term.

For participants who are not yet ready for open employment, we offer pre-vocational programs, volunteer placement facilitation, and school-to-work transition support. Our goal is always to move participants closer to their employment aspirations at a pace that builds confidence and avoids burnout. Every step forward — whether it is completing a training module, attending a work trial, or holding down a shift — is a step worth celebrating.

Who this is for

Built for the families who need it.

Employment and Training services are for NDIS participants who have a goal of finding and maintaining employment, developing vocational skills, or exploring career options. This includes school leavers entering the workforce for the first time, adults looking to return to work, people seeking a career change with additional support, and participants who want to build work-related skills as a stepping stone toward future employment. If your NDIS plan includes Finding and Keeping a Job funding, we can help you turn your employment goals into reality.
